Subject:	RE: INQUIRY INTO SAME SEX PARENTING SUBMISSION
Dear Secretary I am writing to support the implementation of parenting reforms for same sex families in South Australia. As it currently stands same sex parents are recognised in every other state and territory but not in South Australia. Under federal legislation same sex families are recognised which leads to the situation where a non biological parent is liable for child support in the event of a relationship breakdown but is not recognised as a parent at state level. Legislation to harmonise the laws between state and federal legislation is needed as South Australia is lagging behind all the other states again. Same sex couples are travelling interstate to give birth so that both parents can be recognised on the birth certificate. This prevents continuity of care for the biological mother. Couples are also travelling interstate to access artificial reproductive services as these are not available in South Australia unless you are medically infertile. I urge you to act now to resolve this situation and ensure our families are protected. Yours sincerely
